Gerald Lane is an independent consultant on open technology matters such as the intersection of open source, standards and intellectual property.
In his recent career with IBM, Gerry directed IBM’s internal and external open technology programs, including intellectual property commitments, legal issues, and policy negotiations with a multitude of standards, consortia, special interest groups and foundations. As the corporate focal point, Gerry directed skilled technical and legal professionals, steeped in the issues and trends of open technology, to provide advice and monitoring of IBM participation and contributions to standards and open source technology.
Prior to his involvement with the IBM open source and standards activities, Gerry was responsible for the intellectual property licensing programs in the software and semiconductor areas. In earlier assignments, he was responsible for a wide variety of international programs where legal and technical matters converged.
